What is The Joint Commissions’ Gold Seal of ApprovalTM and why is it important for a homecare agency to have it?
When an agency like Luxe Homecare displays the Gold Seal of ApprovalTM accreditation, it signifies that it takes quality of care seriously.
A homecare agency must apply for the Gold Seal accreditation from the Commission. Once this is submitted, the Joint Commission performs an onsite review. When an agency is surveyed by the Joint Commission for this recognition, they must comply with a list of requirements including provision of care, treatment and services, emergency management, human resources, individual rights and responsibilities, and leadership. This evaluation is conducted by a team made up of home health nurses, respiratory therapists, rehabilitation technologists or Direct Medical Equipment professionals, who evaluate a company’s performance in areas that pertain to patient care. They speak to the staff and patients to better understand the organization’s procedures and routine for patient visits, and scores the company on their performance. If the organization receives accreditation, it means they have met the Joint Commission’s standards. The review is repeated every three years. Luxe has been accredited since 2014.
Benefits of the Gold Seal of ApprovalTM
As with any accreditation awarded by a national organization, there are benefits for the recipients. A few of the benefits include:
- Being aligned with one of more respected names in the industry
- Providing a framework for the structure and management of the company
- Recognition by Medicare, other insurers and third parties
- A guideline for the company to follow to maintain and strengthen their performance
- A boost to the organization’s staff education in patient care and safety through the professional advice and counsel of the Joint Commission
Through the accreditation process, organizations learn performance-improvement strategies to continuously improve the safety and quality of care, which often reduces the risk of errors and the cost of liability insurance coverage. It also provides invaluable education. The Joint Commission offers support and educational services, advice and counsel from surveyors during the on-site survey, as well as practical tools, such as The Leading Practice Library and the Targeted Solutions Tools, a group of interactive web-based tools that allow organizations to measure their performance and find customized solutions.
The Joint Commission’s Gold Seal of ApprovalTM is a sign that a homecare company complies with the most stringent standards of performance in their industry. As an accredited company, Luxe Homecare is posted on the Joint Commissions website’s Quality CheckTM page at www.qualitycheck.org.
