Asking strangers to help take care of your parents is difficult enough without your having to worry about the level of care they will receive or the character of the individual being placed at your parent’s home. Luxe Homecare has built our reputation on our licensing, accreditations, high standards of training, proprietary caregiver/patient matching system, and the recommendations we receive from other families. It has taken a great deal of effort and expense on our part to make sure that everything we do exceeds the standards set by the city, county and state.

However, not all agencies are the same. We’ve heard some disconcerting things from families who either used an online referral service or didn’t know which questions to ask during the initial interviews with an agency. We treat your loved one like family.

Because educating the public about appropriate in-home caregiving is our passion, we gathered together ten of the more important questions you should ask before placing your family member with an agency.

  1. Is your in-home care agency licensed?

Luxe Home Care is certified by Medicare, the California Association for Health Services at Home and the California Department of Public Health; accredited by the Joint Commission and approved by the California Department of Social Services. See the orange footer of this page for the Luxe Home Care certifications.

  1. Are your employees (caregivers) licensed and bonded?

Yes, all of our caretakers are licensed. We provide Workers’ Compensation coverage as well as bond our employees, for their protection as well as yours.

  1. How do I know your caregiver doesn’t have a criminal background?

Luxe vets all our caregivers. We perform in detail background checks that include searches of all criminal databases, including sex offenders; county criminal for all counties of residence and federal criminal, plus DMV records and residence trace.

  1. Do you work with all insurance providers?

Our goal is to make your life easier so yes, we work with all short- and long-term insurance providers. We understand how confusing filing these claims can become, so we also offer services to help guide you through the insurance claim process.

  1. Do you train your staff?

We wouldn’t think of doing otherwise. We rigorously train our staff to make sure they uphold our ethical standards and business practices. That includes working with people at different needs levels, especially those with dementia and Alzheimer’s.

  1. Do you match caregivers to clients?

Do we ever! At Luxe Homecare we pride ourselves on meeting with the family and matching a caregiver who will bring out the best in the loved one.

  1. Are there in-home services you don’t provide?

I hesitate to say we do everything but we do. From home caregivers who act as companions to those helping with acts of daily living and light housekeeping. In the Pacific Palisades area, we also offer an ambulatory and non-ambulatory car service for those who can’t drive any longer or have an injury that prevents them from driving. Our car service for our ambulatory clients is now available at our satellite locations in Bel Air, Beverly Hills, Brentwood, Malibu and Santa Monica. In addition, Luxe provides skilled nursing; occupational, physical, and speech therapy; medical social workers and certified home health aides through our Home Health Services Division, and we recently began offering home hospice care. Both Home Health Services and Hospice care must be referred by a physician.

  1. What happens if the caregiver is late or falls ill?

Unlike some agencies that may leave you hanging, we provide a backup caregiver in any situation. You will never have to scramble to make plans for your loved one. To make sure our caregivers show up on schedule, we have an employee call monitoring system they must call to let us know when they arrive at and leave a client’s location.

  1. Are there reviews of your agency that I can look at?

Absolutely. Just visit our website, LuxeHomecare.com, and click on the orange About Luxe button on the navigation menu (toward the right of the page). A drop-down menu will appear, and you’ll be able to look at Luce Home Care Testimonials and Yelp reviews.

  1. Are your caregivers independent contractors or are they employees?

They are our employees. We take care of all the insurance (employment, liability, Workers’ Compensation), W2 forms, training, management and supervision.
