In most people’s minds, in-home care, whether through a caregiver or a member of a home health team, is for seniors. Although Luxe Homecare’s Home Healthcare Department certainly does have our fair share of older clients, we serve individuals of any age, especially through our Home Healthcare Department. If they have had a severe accident, surgery or have a chronic illness, we can meet their needs.
Help! We Need Home Healthcare Now!
Tyrone is one such client. At 36 and happily married to his wife, Cynthia, Tyrone had no major health concerns until a van sideswiped him on the freeway a month ago. The impact caused extensive bruising on his torso and legs. It was so powerful that it broke his femur. The surgeon had to insert a steel rod and plate to stabilize his leg during the healing process.
Tyrone had started physical and occupational therapy at the hospital before being transferred to a rehabilitation center. After two days in rehab, Tyrone announced he wasn’t staying for another day. His wife knew that he wouldn’t be released unless she could prove that a healthcare professional would be at their home to assist him. Cynthia immediately thought of her cousin, Ruby, who had hired an agency several years ago following surgery on her foot. She raved about her care, but Cynthia couldn’t remember their name. After contacting Ruby, she found out it was Luxe Homecare’s Home Healthcare Department.
When Cynthia contacted us, she was frantic. Tyrone was carrying on about going home, and she was not familiar at all with the process. I explained that we would need to know what therapies the doctor was prescribing and then we could coordinate the care with him and bring in our healthcare professionals.
After speaking with Tyrone’s doctor, we arranged for a nurse, a physical therapist and an occupational therapist to come to their home to help Tyrone with his healing process. The nurse was needed to make sure his incision was healing properly and to check on his general health. The physical therapist was assigned to make certain Tyrone did the exercises appropriately and consistently to improve his musculoskeletal strength. Our occupational therapist was there to help him walk up and down stairs, suggest adaptive equipment such as a seat for the shower, help prepare meals if needed, etc.
Cynthia contacted us two weeks later to express how impressed she was with our healthcare professionals and their treatment of her husband, who she admitted was not the easiest patient.
How Luxe Helps Our Clients
I told her that we’ve been doing home healthcare for a long time and have learned to deal with a variety of personalities. Due to her positive experience with our team members, I asked Cynthia if she would mind recommending us to others who needed medical care at home. Also, I informed her of our other in-home caregiving services such as light housekeeping, transferring, and meal planning and preparation, and told her we even have ambulatory and non-ambulatory transportation services. I also suggested she visit our website, LuxeHomecare.com, to learn more.
