You’ve had friends tell you that it’s debilitating and that they experience a searing pain all over their body. You sometimes wonder if it is all in their head because there doesn’t seem to be a logical reason why they are fatigued, achy, find it painful to be touched or are often unable to focus. It’s the F-word no one wants to talk about—fibromyalgia.
What is Fibromyalgia?
Fibromyalgia is believed to be an over-stimulation of the central nervous system causing widespread musculoskeletal sensitivity and pain and can be accompanied by changes in mood, memory issues, sleep or fatigue challenges, morning stiffness, and other symptoms. It is often brought on by trauma, illness or stress to the body. Women appear to be more susceptible to the disorder than men. There is no cure for the fibromyalgia, but relaxation, acupuncture and acupressure, chiropractic care, and exercise appear to ease the pain.
Luxe Homecare’s Experience with Fibromyalgia
A while back we had a call from Marcus. His older sister who was in her 70’s was in the throes of full-blown fibromyalgia attack, and none of the medications the doctor had prescribed were doing the trick. Marcus could see that his sister was in pain. He couldn’t take her to urgent care or the ER because they would send her home. After speaking with a colleague who had used our services after a surgical procedure, he called us. We explained to him that we could provide an in-home caregiver to help his sister with the tasks that were most painful for her to handle on her own. A few months later, Marcus contacted us to say that his sister was the happiest he had seen her in a while. Oh, she was still having painful episodes but knowing that someone was available a few hours a week to help her do specific household tasks was an immense weight off her shoulders.
How Luxe Home Care Can Help
At Luxe Home Care, we train our caregivers to handle a variety of non-medical situations in a compassionate and thoughtful manner. Whether it is arthritis, a life-threatening disease or fibromyalgia, our caregivers do whatever it takes to help our clients live fuller, more independent lives.
It’s crucial when managing fibromyalgia that you are consistent with your medications, do moderate exercise because our bodies are meant to move, get a good night’s sleep and eat foods that will not trigger additional pain. Our caregivers will keep your family members on track. We may not be able to take away the pain and discomfort caused by fibromyalgia, but we can eliminate any additional stressors that may worsen that pain.
